Car maintenance critical in winter months

As the weather get colder it is time to take car maintenance seriously. During the winter months, many people drive more miles than expected. There are the regular trips back and forth to work, shopping trips – these will be increased throughout December as you stock up on food and presents for Christmas. On top of this there will be visits to friends and relatives. The last thing you want to do is break down before you reach your destination, or even worse, get home! That is why car maintenance is critical. Regular checks on your car should include oil and water, tyre pressure and lights.Basic car care is something all drivers should know about and take seriously. Being able to check the engine oil, the pressure of the tyres and the overall condition of the brakes can save you money. All you need is some time, tools and patience! In addition, during the winter months there may be some extra car maintenance required. You should check anti freeze in your engine and invest in some de-icer for those mornings when the windows are frozen over. It is also sensible to be prepared for bad weather. Snow can come down thick and fast so have some items ready in your car or vehicle. A snow shovel is always handy as is a blanket, some walking boots or wellingtons, a torch, extra warm clothing and a blanket. Thieves don’t take Christmas off either so ensure your car is locked soundly and all gifts, shopping and bags hidden from view.
